Biographical or Historical Data: | Settlement of the area which is now the R. M. of Morton began as early as 1879 & was well underway by 1881. The majority of the early settlers came from Ontario via the Boundary Commission Trail. The village of Boissevain was named after Adolphe Boissevain, a member of a Dutch banking family who introduced CPR shares in Europe. Boissevain was incorporated as a village in 1889 & a town in 1906. The railway (CPR) came through in 1885. Morton Municipality was established in 1891. |
